Keep discussion safe and optional
Use fictional examples and never require a student to disclose a personal experience. Learners can describe facial, body, and situational clues, then compare several possible feelings instead of searching for one perfect answer.
Move from naming feelings to choosing actions
After identifying an emotion, ask what the character might need and which response would be safe, kind, and realistic. Role-play two possible responses, or let pairs create a sentence that shows empathy without trying to solve the other person’s problem.
